But, really..on GH lately that hasn’t mattered. We’ve gotten a couple of weeks of “where’s Mikey”….teens driving around without their license–and the usual. I guess I can be glad Jake’s is humming again. At least it’s a chance for us to get our characters together.
What are GHers up to this fine holiday? Derek (Max) tweeted he was trying to watch “Twilight” but fell asleep. Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) wanted to reach 3,000 followers on Twitter and hit the mark today! Brandon Barash (Johnny) is watching the Cubs at Wrigley field! Sarah Brown went to “The Hangover” last night.
Well, for those of you that remember, GH always had a 4th of July picnic in the park. It was a tradition! I found a great YouTube of the 1984 one, enjoy…

That was cool seeing Celia Q. and Jimmy Lee Holt again. I met both of those actors on different occasions back then. Sherilyn Wolter at a car show (wish I still had the autographed pic) and Steve Bond at a TV talk show.
And I recently heard an old “Lux Radio Theater” radio program from the 1940s featuring the voice of a young Anna Lee (Lila Q).
Did Steve Bond pass away?
I loved it when Lucy Coe came on in the middle of the Jimmy Lee/Celia story!
Wikipedia says he’s alive and well at 56.
Lucy Coe: I think I said in earlier comments that the Lucy Coe reveal (mousy librarian is killer’s mistress!) in my favorite ever on GH.
IMDB shows Steve Bond hasn’t done anything from 2000 until this year. He’s done voice work in an animated movie called Noah’s Ark: The New Beginning. Patrick Muldoon (ex-Austin, Days) is also a voice as is Michael Keaton, Rob Schneider, Ben Kingsley, Howie Mandel, and more.
I have to say that I think Lucy Coe is one of my all time favorite characters on GH along with Heather Webber. It would be nice if Guza would bring back some of the core families on GH like the Webbers and a few more Qs. Can’t we find some of Lila’s relatives and bring back Pickle Lila? LOL
Was this the start of the lead up to Beatrice’s death and the Murder Mystery that wasn’t a murder but brought Robert and Holly into the mix.
I believe that Steve Bond had a twin brother who died a few years ago. He was a producer or a director of some sort who getting some fame for a few works that he did.
For those who want their favs back, I hear you!!! The thing is IF they came back NOW with the Gruesome Troll as head writer, they would surely be ruined within seconds of the show!!! Seriously, I don’t want Laura, Heather, and the rest of Qs back on the show right now. They would not get the storyline they deserve to have because this crew Does not know how to create good soap drama period. The head cheese need to fire this current regiment of EP and HW ASAP before it is too late.
I am so glad that Stuart Damon and the rest of the GHers have found other soaps to work on. They are too good to be off our screens. I may have to check out B&B because I love Rick Hearst (been a fan of his since GL daze!!) OK, having my say about this subject.
Now it’s time……….to wish every Wubber a very Happy 4th of July!!!!
Thanks so much for the wonderful memories!! Watching this clip reminds me of THE reason why I became a fan of GH. So much of the heart of the show has been lost over the past ten years, it saddens me. But, I hang in, and maybe I’ll get lucky and we’ll begin to see writing and scenes like this more often. A girl can wish, can’t she?? LOL
Watching the Luke and Laura scenes is a wonderful way to introduce newer viewers to the real Luke–to see him when he was working for Smith but wanting out, to see him so involved with his Laura–instead of this current fake Luke who is supposed to be a con man who cheated on his young wife! There is nothing to like about the Luke of today–Guza has seen to that.
And Damon–wasn’t he gorgeous?! And a really good, intense actor.
Anybody remember the picnic in the park where ‘respectable’ Mr Smith donated fireworks and Luke was to set them off and he got Bobbie to fill in so he could search Smith’s office for a black book? That was hair-raising at the time! And the fireworks going off–all offstage but reflected and exploding loud–great stuff. Most of the cast was in the park, Lee and Gail, Jennifer, Scotty and Laura, Jessie, Dan Rooney–so many others. This was in the days when Bobbie rented a room from Jessie. Picnic baskets and fried chicken on one hand and big suspense at the fireworks installation on the other. Then Bobbie lighting the last one, the big flag which we could see constructed behind the fireworks barrels. TPTB spent money then to do it right! That couldn’t be done now, but the feel of the relationships, the tense stuff between Monica and Alan (This was that same night–that clock that slips in here and there in the video was the clock on Smith’s office desk as Luke searched), the sibling closeness of Luke and Bobbie, the happy give and take of the picnic crowd…well. they could still do that much for us. After all, soaps are about relationships–or should be! Relationships, heart, they pull you in.
Interestingly, Jennifer was a spoiler character for L&L, but she was still a fairly sweet girl (with an iron will), and you felt for her. Imagine if she had been played as a Claudia! Or a Stacy.
Nope. They simply do not know the meaning of subtlety these days or how to do a spoiler character that has human feelings.
