I really liked it and didn’t expect to. I’m kinda in tears here. Maya Angelou’s poem was just beautiful. I really don’t care if people don’t think the tribute is needed or over the top, I felt like it was a great way for all of us to be together for awhile and just BE NICE. We need way more of that.

Stevie Wonder was so great. Everyone in yellow which is such a sunshine and hopeful color. LOVED Magic Johnson’s “Kentucky Fried Chicken” story. LOL.
Jennifer Hudson? wow..goosebumps AGAIN!
Sharpton to the Kids: “Wasn’t Nothing Strange About Your Dad, it Was Strange with what your daddy had to deal with.”
Brooke Shields made me ball my eyes out…good lord. She’s so right, they were both so under the microscope. She brought him so to life. “What’s up with the Glove”?? She did an awesome job.
I think it was worth skipping soaps today..well worth it.
ABC SOAPS that were missed today will be SHOWN TOMORROW…so we won’t miss anything, they’ll just be off a day spoiler date/wise. SoapNet will have yesterday’s soaps on TONIGHT.
Paris –oh geesh, I’m still in tears! Hey, if anything–he was a great daddy, that’s all that matters.
PS. ABC should be ASHAMED that they had Martin Bashir announce. He was totally INAPPROPRIATE.

I wasn’t going to watch but I got hooked. I can’t even talk when I’m on the verge of tears, much less, perform to the excellence of these amazing artists. Wow, I will remember this tribute always
A truly beautiful tribute. I’m surprised how I reacted so emotionally over and over. I couldn’t stop imagining how his children must of felt. Yes, he was an icon, but to them he was just their dad.
Martin Bashir should be ashamed of himself. I finally turned to CNN with no commentary. Stevie Wonder and Jennifer Hudson blew me away, and little Paris? Oy.
I turned the channel too! I also wrote to ABC on their website.
I’m so glad I watched it! People were so calm too and respectful. Good day all around for LA I think
It was a very beautiful memorial. I as well as other’s didn’t think I would be into it, but I wound up loving it. Many points I was brought to tears. I watched it on CNN the whole time, so I am curious what Martin Bashir did or said.
I, too, wasn’t planning on watching. I had no idea what to expect and thought it was a beautiful and emotional memorial/tribute.
wow, it had me in tears, and i wasnt even really a MJ fan, but the Brook Shields story and Jermain singing Smile, just got me
So glad “Human Nature” was performed. I think it’s my favorite MJ tune.
Sadly beautiful, reverent, on-note and at times humorous (think the folks at KFC are happy tonight?), the whole event was done right.
My god, we should all go out like that.
I guess I can say I felt like the rest of you. I was curious to
see what they were going to do. And hours later I was still
watching. I thought they did a GREAT job.
Sure better than General Hospital.
I also had tears, and I never expected that.
I hope the mother gets to keep the children, that is a large
family to look out for them.
It was a beautiful service and was not over the top at all.His brothers I wished had been shown more of.But his children were so sad for there dad.I believe he was there dad to them and forget Debbie Rowe as a mother .
Gotta disagree…the only part I felt was genuine was Paris saying a few words. The rest of it was bombastic heights of hubris – how many taxpayer $$$ are going to go to paying for it? PLLUUUZZEE – give me a break.
Bashir spent enough time with Jackson to get a genuine portrait of the man. Why hate on Bashir for letting the camera roll and asking the questions and watching Jackson hang himself? I’ll tell you this – he may not have molested those boys but there was enough inappropriate behavior admitted to that I sure as hell think the children of the world are safer without MJ in it.
Beautiful service. Very touching and not at all over the top.
I haven’t shed this many tears for a long, long time. Much, much more watchable than the now at the near bottom of the ratings heap GH.
Hey Oldschool, yes taxpayers are footing the bill but what i havent heard anyone say is look at all the influx of money this brought to the city of LA, all the tourists the Hotels were booked solid, restaurants, airline flights from london and europe, $$$$$ so im sure LA , Calif made 100 x back the money they spent with sales taxes and sales for rest. hotels, and mem stuff….you sure havent heard anyone talk about that have u???
Oldschool, Bashir has a right to say anything he wants but do you think it is appropriate to be negative while talking over the man’s funeral? Anyone’s funeral for that matter? I think he should have had respect for people who were genuinely mourning, then he could’ve gone on Larry King and said whatever he wanted. Whether we are fans or not, many people loved him and should not have had to listen to that crap while they were saying goodbye.
Oldschool, I actually thought Bashir’s interviews were interesting. I was talking about his comments yesterday. Like when Brooke Shields talked he said “well, I don’t think they were THAT close”…he just needed to be quiet during the broadcast that’s all. He was just petty and smarmy, imo.
As for the cost, I don’t live in CA so I have no idea how I’d feel about it. It was nicely done though and the crowds were respectful and it was a great thing to watch. Maybe they’ll sell DVDs and recoop!
I totally agree with you abouut Bashir. He was the pale over the abc broadcast. I noticed his negative bent. Urgh!
You do a great job on this site. Can we get rid of the mob?
perhaps some should actually know the facts before talking about how much $ LA got from this which was NONE! not only didn’t it produce sold out hotels but even the police lunches were purchased 80 miles out of town at a cost well over than it should have if purchased locally. actually outside of the arenas the amount of people was no where near what was projected. while mj had many fans around the world (myself being one of them) it is NOT the city nor the state’s responsilibilty to foot the bill for a public memorial. and my facts are from the AP.
I read the article online and was shocked about the lunches. how stupid.
1.1 million for overtime for the police and extra city workers? holy crapola that sounds like a lot to me. perhaps they should have asked which police and city workers wanted to volunteer their time first? i dunno. ..
no the city shouldnt have to cough up the dough..but i think that a lot of the money spent was spent on stupid crap and that is someone in the cities responsibility.
imo!
People are spending way to much time talking about a dead child molester
